Surprised he didnt go with the "go and make disciples" reply, or even "God's will route", etc.. I mean there's various replies that can be given to the conundrum you presented Shirley. I figure he either couldn't answer you because he really didnt have a legitimate reply, or like many witnesses didnt feel like arguing. The guilt used to get folks out there is criminal. I just wish I knew why they want folks out there so bad given they're not accomplishing anything. I mean it can't entirely be about keeping folks busy , right?

Brother with Parkinson's Disease out in service
by ShirleyW inhe was in one of the subway stations here peddling the mags, can't say for sure if he has parkinson's, but his body had "the shakes" that folks get if they have it,he had one crutch up under his shoulder to support him and he had a four pronged cane for his other hand, which he wasn't using.i just had to say something to him, i asked him why is he doing this and he said "we're commanded to do so" then i asked if he felt alright because he certainly didn't look it and he said "well, not really since all the cuts in medicaid and other medical services" so, obviiously we wasn't doing to well at all.
i said you don't have to do this, what scripture in the bible says you have to turn in your time, there's no scripture that says that, and surprisingly he said with a bit of hesitattion "well, i guess you're right".i said you're just turning in time for the governing body, you're just doing it for them and i said a few other things and he didn't say a word, usually, they don't even let you get that far without offering up an argument or quoting some scripture, he just stood there and listened.
i actually felt sorry for him, he wasn't elderly and if he can get around with his crutches that's good, but he doesn't need to stand in a subway station obviously suffering and shaking from whatever illness he has just to get his time in.

Coco Rocha People Magazine JW Blurb
by NoRegrets inso i know that there has been a lot of discussion about coco rocha and it is pretty much a proven fact that she is a jw.
i was surprised, though, to see her make a public statement in about it in people magazine.
we were in the doctor's office waiting room and my wife pointed it out to me.

I read an article about her somewhere other than People magazine. She sounded like a whiney brat to me....saying something about there aren't a lot of other famous jws. And jws like her piss me off. She must be well connected in the Watch Tower to be where she is right now. I've read about several young jws who were pressured to give up careers in the arts, and they were people with real talent, not just underweight bimbos who like to have their picture taken.
I kinda view her as a troll. Her being a JW is pretty much an anomaly when compared to the average young JW, especially the born-ins. For her to model and do television shows, all the while using the religion as a schtick to somehow present her as different from others in the model industry is insulting to all of the born-ins who were forced/raised to forgo the arts because the WT said so. It's offensive and people like her, including Serena, Venus, Prince, etc., should really refrain from labelling themselves JWs in public. They're living the typical JW experience about as much as an atheist is. It's a joke.

I was wondering if the Tunguska Event would be brought up as I remember seeing a History Channel documentary on it a couple years back. Sure enough.............
http://www.foxnews.com/science/2013/02/15/russian-meteor-blast-recalls-massive-108-tunguska-event/
That 1908 blast, which was later attributed to a comet or asteroid fragment, is generally estimated to have been about 10 megatons. No injuries were reported, but some 80 million trees over 830 square miles were leveled in the blast known as the “Tunguska event.”
The explosion near the Podkamennaya Tunguska River on June 30, 1908, reportedly flattened some 500,000 acres of Siberian forest. Scientists calculated the Tunguska explosion could have been roughly as strong as 20 megatons of TNT, or roughly 1,000 times more powerful than the atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima, Space.com reported.
The longstanding theory regarding the cause of the event is a cosmic impact from an asteroid or comet. In the last decade, researchers have conjectured the event was triggered by an asteroid exploding in Earth's atmosphere and measuring roughly 100 feet wide and 617,300 tons in mass — more than 10 times that of the Titanic.

One other thing before I revert back to the mundane things of this world such as, making a living. If you get a chance, check out the Service Meeting for this week. There's a part associated with the letter that's going to be read regarding auxilliary pioneering for March/April. The directions on how this part is to be handled is classic as they're going out of their way to "encourage" ones to pioneer. The directions specifiy that two different types of publishers planning on pioneering during those two months be interviewed. One type is a person who's working full time, and the other is someone with health problems. The first one is no big deal to me as most dubs I know work full time, but the latter is hilarious to me. I mean seriously they requested that someone with health problems be trotted out on the stage for an interview as an example. It's a classic case of, "if this person can pioneer, what can't you?" I guess the powers that be in this organization consider that encouragement.
edit post: thanks Pixel! I don't know how I missed that!!!!! Maybe the mods can delete this thread.

Just got my hands on the letter from a Service Committee brother this morning. If this was already posted, my bad. I did a quick search, but didn't see anything. Gotta love it though. Shows just how arbitrary pioneering can be. All for what? A quick announcement, the audience claps, statistics are recorded, etc.. It's a joke.

QR codes: a way to stop APOSTATES !!!
by raymond frantz ininteresting meeting today.the do had the last talk and he mentioned a couple of things i have not heard before :.
1) the new lighter magazines are designed in a way to attract people to our website .
2)the ministry will change to incoprorate preacing in town centres and and with stands as in manhattan and certain brothers will be allocated to do this .so it is done now in a big scale ,organised.. 3)the qr codes at the back of the magazines are there for smart phone users to guide them directly to jw.org ,unlike bad old internet via laptops and pc's that you have to look for the website on google and sometimes end up in enemy websites that look like our website but are spreading lies about jw's (he said exactly that!

Interesting, Rebel8. So for those of us that are still doing field serve-us, we could tape our own QR codes where the WT's would be. Whats that old Beasie Boys song called? Oh yeah, Sabotage.

Exlcusive Brethren back in the newspapers ,2 pages article in Dail Mail on Sunday
by raymond frantz inexlcusive brethren back in the newspapers ,2 pages article in dail mail on sunday ,the article is trying to make a point as to why we should be allowing a cult to get tax brakes as a charity .the following article is from a guardian 2007 article that describe practices similar to jw's disfellowshiping:.
"growing up in the exclusive brethren meant missing out on a lot of things other children took for granted.
it meant no tv, radio or recorded music, no pets, parties, school outings, plays or sports, no cinema, novels, magazines, no make-up or haircuts, and strict clothing rules.

Reading that's enough to make a born-in JW feel normal.
